Meeting #1: Creating a Vision Board

At our first meeting of the new season, the 30 members of Troop #3027 created their very own vision board!  "This is a strategy", said Miss Donna, "is a tool used by phenomenal women like Oprah Winfrey".  A vision board is a collage of images, pictures and affirmations of your dreams and all of the things that make you happy. It can also be called a dream board, treasure map or vision map. Vision boards can help you feel positive in reaching and accomplishing your goals.

With magazines, glue stick, a manilla folder and a pair of scissors, troop members were able to put their visions on paper.  Many girls cut out photographs of successful women, like First Lady Michelle Obama, Queen Latifah, Wendy Williams, Tia Mowry and Oprah Winfrey.  They also found pictures of fashionable clothes or creative hairstyles that they liked.  Elaysia, a 1st grade Daisy Girl Scout who loves recess, shared her vision board with her Girl Scout sisters!  "In the future, I want to drive and do my own hair", she said.  "I also want to be a writer".

Troop #3027 Takes A Fashion Class

This week, the girls from Troop #3027 put their designing talents to the test at The Fashion Class!  Located in Midtown, at 21 West 39th Street (4th floor), our young fashionistas received step-by-step instructions on how to assemble an original tasseled shirt.  Miss Kerry gave each of our girls a white t-shirt, a pair of scissors, beads, glitter, paint and stencils to create one-of-a-kind tops!




















One of the goals of Girl Scouting is to instill a sense of pride and confidence in each girl.  The Fashion Class allowed each girl to be creative and feel proud of themselves. "I made a shirt with a neck design and beads on it', said Kennedy (Brownie).  "I put the word 'love' on my shirt, hearts, the peace sign with pink and purple", she describes, "I made a bow-necklace and a bracelet"!  Cassidy, another Brownie, also enjoyed the class!  "We got to make stuff...our own designs...however we want", she said.
