The photo of the week was taken by Miss Donna during our annual holiday party!  Brownie Girl Scout Charis is always excited about the many activities that we do during meetings.  But, creating two beautiful looking ornaments really brought out the big smiles.  Happy Holidays!

Meeting #4: Holiday Party

Our holiday party was a success!  Special thanks to our troop parents who went above and beyond the call of duty by donating snacks, food, drinks and desserts!  Another special thanks goes to our friends and colleagues at Nike, Atlantic Records, Nickelodeon and Polo/Ralph Lauren who donated gifts to our girls.  Each girl received a bag filled with items like toys, books, candy, t-shirts, stickers and purses.  Happy Holidays!

Photo of the Week: December 14th Meeting

The photo of the week was taken by Miss Donna at our annual 'Holiday Party' as girls from Troop #3027 viewed the many gifts given to them from donors who support our troop.  From draw-string bags to notebooks and pens, the girls went home with five different gifts that they chose!

Special thanks to Miss Donna's dear friend, Ms. King-St. Louis, for the drawstring bags, Miss Jodi's colleagues at ABC Television for the books and DVD's and friends of Miss Stacey's over at Nickelodeon for the t-shirts and all the novelty items that the girls absolutely loved!  We appreciate your support!  Happy Holidays!

A Kid-Friendly Gingerbread Cookie Recipe

During our 'Holiday Meeting', members of Troop #3027 decorated gingerbread cookies!  Here is a kid-friendly recipe for you to create and decorate your own!  Happy Holidays!

Prep Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Cook Time: 8 minutes

Makes: 2 dozen cookies

 

Ingredients:

• 3/4 C PACKED Dark Brown Sugar
• 1 stick (1/2 C) butter, softened
• 2 Eggs
• 1/4 C Molasses
• 3 3/4 C sifted, all purpose flour
• 2 1/4 tsp ground ginger
• 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
• 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg
• 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions:

1. Measure out 3 1/2 C of all purpose flour and sift into a bowl. Spoon the flour into measuring cup(s) do NOT PACK!! Once you have 3 3/4 C flour measured out, pour it into a separate bowl and add in the nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Sift these ingredients together until fully combined and set aside.
2. In your stand mixer, cream together butter and sugar until thoroughly combined, add in the eggs and molasses and mix until fully incorporated.
3. Add the dry ingredients 1 C at a time until it's all been added and mixed in. You may have to forgo the mixer and use a wooden spoon.
4. Remove the dough from the bowl and wrap in plastic wrap; place in the fridge until firm, about 45 minutes.
5. Pre-heat the oven to 350°F
6. Remove the dough from the fridge and let sit while you line cookie sheets with parchment paper, flour your work surface lightly and dust your rolling pin with flour.
7. Using 1 C of dough at at time, roll the dough out on your floured surface until it's 1/8 to 1/4" thick - depends on you.
8. Use your favorite cookie cutter, cut out your gingerbread and place on parchment lined cookie sheets.
9. Bake about 8 minutes, or until they just begin to brown on the edges.
10. Place on wire racks to cool.
11. Use your favorite icing!

Holiday Party - 2012

Thanks to a generous donation from B'Cause It's Mimi and Nike, members of Troop #3027 were given a backpack full of gifts during the troop's annual Holiday Party!  "We really appreciate the donations that we receive for the girls each year", said Miss Jodi who founded the troop in 2009, with her sister Stacey.  "It's important to show the girls how special they are".   Happy holidays to the parents, girls and supporters of Girl Scout Troop #3027!

Happy Women's History Month!

The public celebration of women's history in this country began in 1978 as "Women's History Week" in Sonoma County, California. The week including March 8, International Women's Day was selected. In 1981, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Rep. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) co-sponsored a joint Congressional resolution proclaiming a national Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the celebration to a month, and March was declared Women's History Month.

Our Holiday Party!

On December 18, 2010, Girl Scout Troop #3027 celebrated the holidays and practiced table etiquette at Settepani Mediterranean Restaurant in Harlem! Along with many family members, Ms. Saundra (Miss Regina's Mom) joined us for our holiday party. At our last meeting, Ms. Saundra gave the girls a lesson in table etiquette and promised them that she would join us at our holiday party. We were very happy to see her!

Special thanks goes to the owner and staff of Settepani for providing us with great service, tasty food, and a beautiful place to meet. A big thank you also goes out to the many parents who brought coats and toys to donate to Angel Tree. On behalf of all the troop leaders, Happy Holidays! See you next year!
